Speaking of Lightroom and iOS, what if you could take the beautifully shot RAW files from your SLR, bring them into Adobe’s super-powerful processing app and… apply Instagram filters? Now you can, thanks to a $5 set of presets from Casey Mac Photo.
The presets come in two forms, tailored for Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 4. Casey has obviously spent quite some time tweaking Lightroom’s settings to get the effects, because thew results are very close to the original Instagram filters.
To install them, open up Lightroom and — when in the Develop Module — right click in the presets panel and create a new folder. I called mine "Instagram." Then, right click that and choose "import" and find the presets you downloaded. That’s it. You can now click through them and apple them to any photo. And of course, unlike with real Instagram, you can continue to tweak on top of these effects.
I love them, and downloaded them right away (you pay via PayPal). And if you’re griping about $5 for a set of 17 well-crafted presets, then listen to what the author says:
At just $5, these filters are well-priced and cost no more than a latte or an app on your phone.
It’s pretty sad that this line even has to be in the post, but there you go. We live in a world of ungrateful cheapskates. And before you comment to say that they’re just presets, and anyone can make them, why don’t you just go ahead and roll your own?
