A sneak peek at Boom 1.4 for Mac OS X.

Boom, a terrific utility for Mac OS X that boosts system volume well above Apple’s default limit, is set to receive a new update that promises to deliver all of the features and improvements that Boom users have been asking for. That includes scroll gestures for those running Snow Leopard and Lion, the ability to access functions from the status bar icon, and more.

The Boom 1.4 update has been submitted to Apple and is currently awaiting approval. Its developers have told Cult of Mac that we can expect to see the release live in around 7 to 10 days. “The new update is going to make all the existing Boom users happy,” Global Delight told us.

Its full list of new features include:

  • Scroll gesture for moving Boom volume slider in Snow Leopard and Lion OS, like the default volume slider
  • Frequency markings on the Equalizer bands when hovered the mouse over them for accurate setting
  • Secondary click option on Boom status bar icon
  • Quit option in the Boom UI and status bar drop down

Furthermore, the update will also fix an issue that caused a delay for some users, and another that sometimes cause a sudden volume drop.

Boom is great for MacBook users who find their built-in speakers are far too quiet. Once installed, you can boost your system volume for music and videos from all kinds of sources, including iTunes, QuickTime, YouTube, Vimeo, Netflix, Hulu, Skype, FaceTime, and lots more. It also provides a system-wide equalizer that allows you to seamlessly adjust your sound to suit you.

The $6.99 tweak is available to purchase from the Mac App Store, or from Global Delight direct.
