iOS 5.1.1 Update Doesn’t Kill The Redsn0w Jailbreak For A4 Devices [Jailbreak]

We’d usually advise jailbreakers to avoid Apple’s iOS updates just after their release, until hackers have confirmed that the latest software can be jailbroken. But one report claims that it’s perfectly safe to update your A4-powered devices to iOS 5.1.1 without losing your Redsn0w jailbreak.

Apple traditionally patches the exploits that jailbreakers use with major iOS releases, but it often leaves them open with smaller updates. That’s certainly the case with iOS 5.1.1, according to Redmond Pie, which claims to have successfully jailbroken the latest release using Redsn0w:

We have tested and can confirm that current latest version of Redsn0w jailbreaking tool can be used to jailbreak Apple’s latest iOS offering tethered on A4 powered devices such as iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and below, thus allowing you to have continued access to all of the benefits of a liberated iOS device.

The report notes that iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd has also confirmed on Twitter that iOS 5.1.1 is susceptible to the latest jailbreak.

Of course, iOS 5.1.1 is only a minor update, so you may not want to update at all and just stick with your existing jailbreak instead. But for those who do want the bug fixes and patches that the latest software brings, it’s good to know your can jailbreak again after updating.
