AT&T is finally unlocking iPhones at the end of a completed contract, but if you bought the new iPhone 4S you’re going to be waiting another 18 months or so until your phone is eligible for an official carrier unlock. What if you want to use your iPhone on T-Mobile, or maybe go overseas and use a local carrier rather than pay for some crazy out of coverage fees? Fortunately, hacker Loktar_Sun has discovered an incredibly easy way to unlock your iPhone 4S or any other iPhone. The process is super easy – all you need is a jailbroken iPhone, and these 13 easy-to-follow steps.
Warning: Jailbreaking your iPhone can void your warranty. Even though this processes is easy, we recommend you backup your iPhone before proceeding and make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
1: Open Cydia and add the repository repo.binger.com. Then search for Sam Binger’s SAM (Subscriber Artificual Module) package and install it.
2: Touch on SAMPrefs icon
3: Navigate to Utilities. Select De-Activate iPhone. Your your ActivationState under “More Information” should now be “Unactivated.”
4: Choose “By Country and Carrier” in “Method” and then select your current carrier.
5: Choose More Information again and copy or write down your IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) in SAM Details
6: Tap on “Spoof Real SIM to SAM”
7: Go to main SAM menu and change the “Method” to manual and paste your IMSI in the field.
8: Connect your iPhone to iTunes and it will reactivate your iPhone.
9: Quit iTunes once your iPhone is reactivated
10: Disable SAM in the SAMPrefs app
11: Connect your iPhone to iTunes again. iTunes should now give you an error saying your iPhone cannot be activated. This is normal.
12: Quit iTunes and open it again.
13: iTunes will now activate your iPhone and it will be unlocked for you to use on any carrier (such as T-Mobile).
Push notifications on the iPhone may stop working, but you can fix that by going into SAM, touching “Clear Push” and then connect the iPhone to iTunes once more.
