SoulCalibur finally allows you to compete with friends over Bluetooth.

We were hugely exited for SoulCalibur when the classic fighter made its debut on iOS back January. And while we were very impressed by Namco Bandai’s efforts, like many reviewers, we were disappointed by the lack of any multiplayer modes. After all, that’s what fighting games are all about, right?

Thankfully, Namco has now rectified that with an update that brings local multiplayer over Bluetooth… except for the iPod touch.

With the 1.1.0 update, SoulCalibur offers a “VS BATTLE” mode that allows you to compete with your friends locally over Bluetooth. finally. That means you can relive those classic side-by-side battles you enjoyed back in the day and really rub it in your opponent’s face when you win.

Don’t get too excited, though, because if you’re an iPod touch owner you still don’t have multiplayer gaming. SoulCalibur was already a pretty demanding game, and while the iPod touch is capable of running the single player game, it doesn’t quite have enough RAM for the multiplayer option. You’ll need either an iPhone 4, an iPhone 4S, and iPad 2, or the new iPad.

To celebrate the new multiplayer option, SoulCalibur is on sale for a limited time just $11.99 — that’s $3 its usual price.
