Blizzard: We’d Be ‘Foolish’ Not To Bring Warcraft To iPhone, But We Must Get It Right

WoW will hit the App Store, just as soon as its developer has an epiphany.

Blizzard, the company behind the hugely popular MMO World of Warcraft, has revealed that is constantly looking at ways in which it can bring its title to the iPhone, and admits that it would be “foolish” not to explore the possibility. It promises that as soon as it has perfected the mobile experience, we’ll know about it.

Having WoW in your pocket at all times is something fans have been dreaming about, and they’ll be pleased to know that Blizzard is indeed looking into it. The company’s senior WoW producer, John Lagrave, confirmed during an interview with Eurogamer:

Here’s your platform, you’ve got to put an interface, what do you do? So yes we have [looked into mobile] and we always are. Maybe we’ll stumble on the great way to put WoW on the phone – maybe we won’t, but we’re certainly looking into it.

The only problem is, it seems the company is having a hard time porting the title to the touchscreen. Until it has done that and developed a “decent” experience, you won’t see WoW in the App Store:

We won’t do it until we think it’s decent. But it’s interesting and the world is evolving towards that little handheld device – I’d have fun on it, that’s absolutely the case. It would be foolish for any game developer to not be looking at that.

When we have an epiphany, everyone will know. But for now, no epiphany!

It shouldn’t be too hard for Blizzard to have that epiphany. After all, it only needs to look at Gameloft’s Order & Chaos, a WoW clone, to see how games like this should work on a touchscreen.
