While 4G LTE connectivity for the iPad 3 seemed unlikely just a few weeks ago, recents rumors have said that the super speedy mobile internet technology will indeed be making its debut in Apple’s new tablet. The latest report comes from The Wall Street Journal, which confirms the device be joining Verizon’s LTE network.

“People familiar with the matter” have confirmed to the WSJ that the iPad 3 will be the first of Apple’s mobile devices to support LTE, and that it will be a huge boost for Verizon Wireless:

The new iPad that Apple Inc. is expected to announce Wednesday could do more than lift the technology company’s sales. It could also be a boon for Verizon Wireless.

Verizon has by far the country’s largest LTE network, which could give the company a competitive edge this year against rival AT&T Inc.

Back in February, sources for the WSJ claimed the device would get 4G connectivity with both Verizon and AT&T in the U.S., and would have the ability to switch between 3G and 4G networks as and when required.
