Apple’s New Retail Store Within Harrods Will Open In Time For iPad 3 [Rumor]

Harrods-London

We first heard about Apple’s plans to open a retail store within London’s world-famous Harrods department store back in January, but we had little information on the store’s launch date. Sources “inside Harrods” are now reporting that it will open its doors in time for the iPad 3 launch in mid-March.

Having already opened a number of “stores-within-a-store” at Best Buy and Target locations throughout the U.S., Apple is bringing the concept to the U.K. Harrods, which sees over 300,000 visitors on its busiest days, will reportedly be one of the first to get its own Apple store, and it’ll open in time for the iPad 3.

9to5Mac reports that sources have confirmed Apple’s plans to open the store in mid-March, signaling the iPad 3’s release date:

The iPad 3 is rumored it be introduced on March 7th, and Apple typically launches their new products within a few weeks of the introductions. A mid-March opening for the Harrods Apple Store would likely be an opening between Monday, March 12 and Monday, March 19. Apple typically launches their cornerstone products, such as the iPad and iPhone, on Fridays. A Friday in mid-March would be March 16th.

[…] What better place to have an iPad 3 launch day than a high-end department store with hundreds of thousands of visitors?

This is all speculation for the time being, of course, but 9to5Mac’s reasoning certainly makes a lot of sense. And with the iPad 3 announcement expected on March 7, a March 16 release is certainly plausible.
