Android may not be every Mac user’s cup of tea, but it’s the biggest mobile operating system in the world, and it’s important to know what’s going on with Android — what it’s doing right, and what it’s doing wrong. Here’s the best stories that hit today over at our sister site, Cult of Android.

Sprint Offering The LG Marquee And Samsung Transform Ultra For Free

If you’ve been looking for a mid-range Android device and are on a budget, you may want to take a look at what Sprint has to offer. The LG Marquee and Samsung Transform Ultra are now being offered for free when signing up for a new two-year contract. While these devices aren’t the cream of the crop, they are more than capable of performing the necessary tasks for an average user on a budget. If the Lg Marquee sounds familiar, it’s because Boost Mobile just recently added it to their pre-paid lineup, and now it has become a “no-cost” option on Sprint. More…

Apple’s Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Really Wishes His iPhone Did All The Things His Android Does

Steve Wozniak is a man who loves technology. He’s also a man who’s not afraid to tell it how it is. You’d expect a guy who co-founded Apple to be incessantly praising it while dismissing any advantages the competition may wield. Instead, he’s an open-minded guy who enjoys a variety of tech products, including Android. In fact, in an interview with the Daily Beast, Woz had much praise for the mobile OS that Steve Jobs was hellbent on destroying. More…

Apple Reloads: More Lawsuits Against Samsung, Ten Models Involved In A Design Spat [Cat Fight]

It’s a new year, and much to our dismay, that means a whole new onslaught of litigation by Apple. It appears they have reloaded their litigating guns with high-priced lawyers and fired upon ten Samsung models (along with a separate suit against tablets) who they say violate their hardware design patents. In a suit filed in Germany, Apple is looking to ban the sales of ten Samsung smartphone models, including the Galaxy S Plus and the S II. More…

HTC Confirms Reports That Sprint Has Asked OEMs To Begin Updates To Remove Carrier IQ

We reported on the good news of Sprint and HTC removing Carrier IQ from the HTC EVO 3D yesterday, but what would you say if I told you HTC has confirmed that Sprint will be phasing out Carrier IQ completely. I’m guessing the first thing you’ll do is remove that silly tinfoil hat from your head, then perhaps go outside again. Kidding aside, we knew this was coming, and it’s nice to see some confirmation on the subject. More…

Verizon Apparently Believes A 16GB SD Card Is Worth $100 – DROID RAZR 16GB Available Now For $199

Verizon’s latest move attempts to convince you that 16GB of memory is worth $100. In classic Big Red fashion, Verizon removed the 16GB SD card from the 32GB DROID RAZR and thus dropped the price to $199. This is of course in preparation for the DROID RAZR MAXX coming out with a $299 price. At $299, that puts the RAZR MAXX at the same price as the original RAZR, and in all honesty, who’s going to purchase the original RAZR with its smaller battery when they can get the MAXX for the same price? More…

Is Samsung In Talks To Buy Out RIM? [Rumor]

This rumor has been making the rounds today so I figured why not talk about it. According to a trusted source of BGR, RIM is looking for someone to buy their ailing company — specifically, leading mobile OEM Samsung. I, for one, don’t believe this will ever happen, and can’t even think of one good reason for Samsung to purchase RIM. Many will argue Samsung would gain things such as BBM, BIS/BES and most of all, RIM’s pile of patents. But does Samsung really need any of that? I don’t think so. More…

Help Willow The Whale Escape The Clutches Of Evil Baron Von Barry In Whale Trail, Now Available In the Android Market

A cute new game hit the Android Market yesterday. It’s called Whale Trail, and if my hippie mom had a mobile phone back in the 60 and 70′s, she would have been all over this. Take a trip through rainbow land with Willow the whale, and fly through the 7 kingdoms of colour as he tries to escape the clutches of the evil Baron Von Barry and the Thunder Bros. Meet groovy friends as you fly through the clouds and collect Blubbles in this psychedelic side-scroller featuring: More…

Samsung Promises All Day Battery Life For Future Devices

As mobile devices gain advances in almost every aspect of hardware and software, the one thing that doesn’t get any better is battery life. It’s expected that all these larger screens, graphic intensive games, etc. would demand more of our batteries, but why we have yet to see battery advances or larger batteries included in these devices is beyond me. Perhaps it’s due to manufacturers trying to maintain a slim appearance, but it’s time to start spending a bit more worrying about battery life versus a couple millimeters in thickness. More…

That’s it ! Cult Of Mac is out of my bookmarked sites. Good luck with your amalgamated mess.
I am not at all interested in what Android wants, thinks, says, imagines. I came here for MAC stuff and I’m leaving to find it elsewhere. Consider changing your name to “Cult Of Confusion”. And, Good Bye !

  • TXCraig

If you have a Ford lovers webiste, and you start posting Chevy news…. the Ford people will go away… Cult of Mac is NOT Engadget! Just interested in Apple news here!

  • andya41

That goes for me too.  That is the last time I give COM any leaks!  I will get my Mac news elsewhere.  I have eliminated the COM bookmark.

  • makias

Sorry to say this but I’m with @andya41:disqus and @AvoidDroid:disqus … This is my last visit to CoM, this was such  great site, I really enjoyed being your reader but you blew it guys, you should listen what YOUR readers want.
    Bye.

  • markbyrn

You forgot to turn off the comments and so it’s time once again to ask you top stop cross-posting from your Android site.  Even a site like The Verge that covers all tech has sections including Apple.  Hmm, maybe with Apple Insider, 9to5Mac and the Verge Apple section, I don’t need to read CoM if they continue to cross-post from their Android site.

  • andya41

Well put!  I couldn’t have said it better.

  • Shaunathan Sprocket

First, the good news.  THANK YOU! for not posting the same header that all of these have had.

    Now the bad news:
    1. You continue to post cult of android news on cult of mac.
    2. YOU CLOSE COMMENTS?!  This is your reaction to your readership telling you not to cross-post.  You remove the ability of them to complain to you?  Are you serious?
    3. The only traffic I give cult of android was to attempt to locate the article you posted on cult of mac in hopes that that one did not have comments locked.  It wasn’t even on there.  You did a digest of news articles from the site…

    PLEASE STOP DOING THIS!

There was a time when I believed so much in this site I clicked on every single ad each time I came just to up your CPM.  Needless to say I’ve stopped doing it with this behavior.

In the past year I’ve provided 2 news leads, one of which, you’ve even acted on.

In the future I’ll be sure to give my news leads to news organizations you and your editor and your company are not affiliated with.

So far I have one for this year.  I will not be sending it to you.

  • MarkJackson73

WAAAAAHH!!! Instead of reading the 50 other stories cult of mac posts about Apple I’m going to be a whiny little bitch and complain about the one story that is about Android because I’m a delusional dumbass who thinks Apple is the only company in the world and I get offended if anyone mentions another platform. WAAAAAH!!! My life is so shitty that I have to post stupid comments on a blog to make up for the deficiencies of my life because it makes me feel good to bitch at a website I love who isn’t doing everything my way.
go read another website then you dumbass. No one made you read Cult of Android. No one made you comment on this post, but you decided that it offends you to see Android commentary rather than ignoring it and moving on to something you like. Just get your shit and head to 9to5mac where they post 5 Apple news stories a day and you’ll be happy for a few days, but then you’ll come back.

  • alexheath

If one Android post a day really bothers you guys this much, you should consider some kind of therapy. No one is holding a gun to your head to read the 3-inch post preview for one Android post per day on CultofMac.com. It’s not the end of the world. And hey, you may actually learn something about the competition. Believe it or not, there are benefits to understanding more than one news/tech angle.

  • my2pence_worth

Give it a rest with all of this Android news, I’m not interested in this (and by the looks of it neither are a few other people). If I wanted to read about Android I would have found a site that does that type of posting. I’m on COM so guess what…I want news about OS X, iOS and Apple.

I felt so strongly about this I had to bother to sign up to DISQUS so that I could comment, been reading this site for awhile now and never felt the need to comment.

If the readers at COM have to suffer Android news, what is it that the readers of COA don’t have enjoy Mac news?

  • Sdreed91

I sympathize that your relativly new site CoA needs visitors. However, I do agree with others here that comments should not be turned off to silence us: your readers. Secondly cross-posting would be okay if the news was relevant to Apple and Android. Other sites pull off cross-posting rather well. For instance 9to5mac cross-posted from 9to5google about Woz’s remarks regarding his android device. Cross-posting isnt evil. You just arent doing it in a way that most of your Cult of Mac readers appreciate.

  • markbyrn

Look who’s throwing out accusations of having a shitty life and whining; somebody who writes a long screed just to rebut a comment.  You wouldn’t be Leander’s sock puppet would you?

  • MarkJackson73

    sorry for double post.

  • MarkJackson73

I’ll tell you the same thing I just told the guy below. I’m pretty sure that CoM has heard the complaints and are figuring out a better solution, but what do you expect them to do? Stop promoting CoA, watch their traffic dive and then have to fire the writers they’ve hired for CoA because a bunch of spoiled internet complained like a bunch of schoolyard bitches?

i think that’s a very fair assessment and it’s something that we’re working on. It’s new. We’re trying to find our groove with it. We’re actually working on a few options right now that will satisfy both the deranged fanboys who are rioting on the internet with every CoA crosspost as well as Android fans that visit cult of mac. There’s a large amount of people that want both Android and Apple news and we’re working on doing it in a way that makes everyone happy. There will be some new ways to turn off CoA posts in the very near future…until then, i’d just suggest people scroll down to the next story, which will be an Apple story, rather than getting so worked up because they hate Android with a fiery passion.

Yes well I do not feel the need to go on an epic rant. I understand you have to put a lot of work into another site and you would be crazy to let it just die. So I tried to be very objective with my arguement.

I don’t believe in socks. I’ve never even commented on this website before, but seeing all you idiots cry about one post makes no sense and someone needs to put you in your place for being spoiled brats.

  • Chris44344

WILL YOU STOP POSTING ANDROID NEWS ON HERE. I DON’T CARE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ANDROID. IF I DID I WOULDN’T BE ON THIS SITE.

  • MercuryFumes

Bitches, dumbasses, idiots and brats? Could you please continue NOT COMMENTING on this site until you learn some manners?

  • BrentCrandall

Jackass, I’m outta here.  Enjoy your Android.

Please post content relevant to Apple on Cult of Mac.  When I want stories related to Android, I’ll head over to that site.

    Cult of Greed

Whoever came out with the idea of posting Craproid junks at CoM should be sacked

If we needed news of crapdroid or other Apple competitors we would be visiting other tech sites instead of coming here as obviously the name of this site is ‘Cult’ of Mac. CoM is Not some generic tech site. So ALEX HEATH your argument is wrong.

  • makias

It’s not because we think Apple is the only company in the world, it’s all in the name, this is not “Cult of Tech”, I love to read tech news to find out what’s up with all tech companies but as the CoM name says this should be only focused on Mac news. They can always change they name to something more generic and post Symbian, Android, W8 or whatever they want.
And also I found really disrespectful that they turn the comments off, they should listen to their readers, not censor them.

  • LUVS_ME_SOME_MAC

I keep seeing COM trying to justify this. We need to keep an eye on the “enemy”. Or it’s “important” to see what Android is doing. Well COM, look at it this way. I own a Macbook Pro and an iPhone 4S. I don’t dislike Android owners, I don’t own Android or Apple Stock. I am not a developer, or a salesman. I just a Joe Average User, like I imagine most of your readers are. I came here to learn shortcuts and tips about my products when I switched to Mac in June of ’11. It was nice to have a place that totally applied to Mac.  What I am trying to say is, I DON’T GIVE AN ANT’S ANUS ABOUT ANDROID. I have found better sites now, and merely returned here in the hopes that you had listened to your readers. I also don’t appreciate the scolding, and way you are treating your readers as if you teaching us a lesson. Very disrespectful.
