OnLive made headlines earlier this week when the company announced a new iPad app at CES which brings Windows 7 to the iPad, allowing you to run Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Those of you who are interested in the app and you live in the U.S., you can grab it now, for free, from the App Store.
The free download provides you with access to a cloud-based PC desktop running Windows 7 on your iPad, “whenever and wherever you want it.” OnLive promises the new app will bring you “a high-performance PC experience, regardless of the content, even when interacting with fast-action media.”
I’m not quite sure what that “fast-action media” could be, because as things currently stand you can only access certain applications, including the Microsoft Office suite, and a web browser. You cannot install your own software, so don’t expect to be loading up World of Warcraft on this thing.
There is one other downside, too. I’ve been trying to use the app all morning and all I’ve gotten out of it is a “service is currently full” error, seen below. That would suggest your hopes of a last-minute edit to your PowerPoint presentation will be quashed if too many people are already using the service.
