New Outback-Worthy Bruiser Battery From Mophie Will Charge Your iPad [CES 2012]

LAS VEGAS, CES 2012 — Those studly hex bolts, that rubberized exterior, the thick mass of battery — Mophie’s new Power Station Pro was obviously designed with one idea in mind: keeping your iDevice-laden butt juiced out in the middle of nowhere.

Compared with Mophie’s other batteries it’s a bit of a brick, until you take into account the rubberized, water-and dust-resistant seal and massive, 6000 mAh battery — at which point it actually begins to seem petite.

External battery packs capable of charging iPads are uncommon, as many batteries lack the ability to charge at the 2.1 amps the iPad requires. Most batteries also don’t have the capacity of this bruiser. In theory, 6000 mAh should be enough juice to charge an iPad 2 to just over 80 percent full, or charge an iPhone almost three times over.

The Power Station Pro should come online within the next few months, priced at $100.
