If you have plans to sue Apple for a faulty MagSafe power adapter that may have set fire to your home office, then you had better make it a priority on your to-do list. The deadline to make claims under the class action settlement relating to the device is fast approaching.
Apple MagSafe adapter is one of those little things that makes owning a portable Mac so enjoyable. Its magnetic connection means that your expensive notebook isn’t pulled onto the floor when someone trips over the cable in your local coffee shop, and while it may not be the first thing you tell your friends about, it’s a wonderful feature that should be commonplace of notebook computers.
Some of the early models had other safety issues, however. The plastic sleeve towards the end of the cable used to split, exposing the wires inside and posing a fire hazard, and forcing customers into purchasing a replacement adapter. Of course, Apple was sued and it settled the lawsuit in November of last year, insisting that “the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.”
If you’d like to sue Apple for money you spend on replacement adapters, then you now have just over two months to make your claim. The deadline for submitting your form — which can be downloaded from this FAQ page — is March 21, 2012.
Affected customers are eligible for a cash settlement, the amount of which will depend on when the replacement adapter was purchased.
