Proceeds from of a pile of great Mac and iOS apps sold today (December 20th) will be donated to a charity working to provide clean water to those who don’t have it.

Head on over to Apps for Water and you’ll see how you can help. Grab an app you’ve always had your eye on, and you can be sure that your money will be passed on directly to charity:water.

The whole thing’s been organised by Mike Piatek-Jimenez of Gaucho Software, who wrote recently:

With the holiday season upon us, I wanted to take this opportunity to give again, but in a bigger way than ever before. So today I’m announcing a new campaign called Apps for Water. [It] gives app developers a chance to donate one day of their sales to a very worthy cause: providing clean water for developing nations. It seems like a simple thing, turn on a faucet and clean water pours out. Unfortunately, there are almost 1 billion people in the world who don’t have a safe, clean water source.

A bunch of other developers have jumped aboard, so there are 30 apps for OS X and 26 for iOS, at prices ranging from one dollar right up to $80. Something for everyone.
