Despite Apple’s best attempts to get the tablet banished from Australian soil, Samsung is now selling its Android-powered Galaxy Tab 10.1 down under, and it has a whole new marketing angle that’s guaranteed to attract attention. The Korean company is now labeling its device “the tablet Apple tried to stop.”

Despite claiming the Galaxy Tab “slavishly copied” its iPad, Apple could only get the device banned for a few months in Australia. And what rubs salt into Apple’s wound is that Samsung now claims its recent legal spat has helped its device become a “household name.”

Samsung Australia’s vice president of telecommunications, Tyler McGee, told The Sydney Morning Herald:

At the end of the day the media awareness certainly made the Galaxy Tab 10.1 a household name compared to probably what it would’ve been based on the investment that we would’ve put into it from a marketing perspective.

In an advert published in the Sun-Herald newspaper this week, Samsung calls the Galaxy Tab “the tablet Apple tried to stop.” It’s not the first time the company has taken aim at Apple, its products, or its users in recent ads — with a recent Galaxy S II ad poking fun at iPhone users — but it is the first time it has specifically mentioned the Apple name.
