I was exploring some of the new features in iTunes 10.5.1 this week and I found out that iTunes offers a lot of technical information about our iOS devices. The only problem is that the information is hidden on the device summary tab and unless you know how to get to it you wouldn’t think about looking for it.
The device section of the summary tab for my iPhone 4S displays the device name, capacity, software version, serial number and my phone number. It looks something like this:
If you click on the Software Version of iOS you’ll be shown the build number for the version of iOS installed on my iPhone 4S. According to iTunes I have 5.0.1 Build 9A404 installed.
If I click the serial number my devices UDID identifier is revealed.
Clicking on the phone number once reveals the IMEI number for my iPhone 4S and if I click it a second time I see the ICCID number for my iPhone 4S.
If you have an iPad Wi-Fi+3G and click multiple times on the serial number field you’ll see your Cellular Data Number, UDID, IMEI, and ICCID just like on the iPhone 4S. You can also see the iOS build information by clicking on the Software Version section.
Now most of this information is probably of no use to most people, but if you are speaking to someone at AppleCare or your cellular carriers support organization they might ask you for some of this info. Although this information is also available directly on your devices (Settings app > it is nice to be able to get it from another place if you need too.
