Users Report Find My Friends Service Outages And Sign Up Problems

Well if you had any doubts about this past weekends iPhone 4S sales you can rest easy it was a blockbuster weekend for Apple and all the carriers. Millions of customers are out trying all the new features in iOS 5, on their iPhone 4S and in iCloud. It also looks like a lot of you are trying to find your friends with Apple’s new Find My Friends app and related services. Well it looks like this morning that the service is experiencing activation problems.

I got wind of this problem from an associate of mine and so I decided to give Find My Friends a try this morning. It didn’t work and before this morning I hadn’t been getting requests from friends that they claimed to have sent, but I suddenly did today inside of the App as well as an email. So finally with one of those requests in hand I gave it a try. However I didn’t get very far:

Subsequently I was sent to appleid.apple.com and I tried to verify my Apple ID. No luck there either. The app launched Safari for me, I tried logging in and I got an”An unknown error has occurred.”  Oops no friend finding for me today.

Finally undaunted I tried again and I got:

No luck. Right now Find My Friends isn’t finding anyone or at least providing the services or information I need to find them. Thanks anyways Find My Friends.

I’m going to reach out to Apple to find out if there is a way to check the status of the Find My Friends service similar to how you can check the status of iCloud. You can check iCloud services status at Apple’s website, but it doesn’t get granular enough to tell you what is going on with every service – now it reports all green for iCloud.

I’m sure that Apple will work the kinks out of Find My Friends and a few outages will occur from time to time, but I hope they work out the kinks soon because everyone needs to find  their friends now and then right?
