Forgotten iPod Loaded with Child Porno Leads to Arrest

33-year-old Jason Daniel Goodman left his iPod Touch behind at an Oregon gas station almost a year ago. Employees figured something that valuable would be claimed, so they waited five months.

When no one came back for it, one of them took the iPod home – and found it loaded with child pornography. The employee’s wife recharged the Touch and was so stunned by the graphic sexual images — 1,400 pornographic pics including some with children as young as six —  that she turned the device over to police.

The crime lab traced the iPod to Goodman (was ever a name possibly less accurate?), got a search warrant and seized his laptop, flash drives and modems and took him to jail.  His other devices are currently under analysis at the crime lab.

Described by the tabloids as a “portly perv” and “Family Man Peter Griffin Lookalike,” Goodman is being held on $200,000 bail.

This isn’t the first time that iPod’s large storage capacity and big screen have led to arrests in child pornography cases – apparently the temptation to have it handy wins out over common sense.

    That guy is only 33?

  • adizzle

    Execute him

  • Stephen

Shouldn’t his photo have been included in the preceding Me and My Mac article?

  • erfon elijah

haha i was just going to comment that dude is only 33??? ryan beat me to it

  • Stephen

Yeah, could easily guess 45+ based on his photo.  He has the look of someone with a lifetime diet based on fast food.

  • Just me

What’s up with that big head? Guess he could fill that up with lots of explicit shit.

  • Gregintosh

    He looks like Michael Moore!

  • JMattP

Five months? I bet one of the cops loaded it and used the owner as a scapegoat.

  • Alexia

    he’s 33 years old?!?! he looks 50

  • Michael

The worst possible name would probably be Pureman (I don’t know if thats a real name), but Goodman is pretty close!

  • Wes

cops didn’t have it you nub…the store clerks did. Learn to read

  • Bitter Witch

    That’s what you get!

  • Bitter Witch

    Ew, right?!

  • JMattP

I wish I could respond to what you just said, but, apparantly I can’t read.

  • yoyogipark

“apparently the temptation to have it handy wins out over common sense.”
Did you really just write that?

  • CharliK

Guess no one told him that find my porno, I mean iPhone, works on the Touch. Remote lock and wipe would have been his friend

  • lumpia91791

Doesn’t explain the grey hairs though.

  • lumpia91791

“If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the
device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the
passcode, but your data will not be present.”

Couldn’t even use a passcode lock huh buddy? Would have been a hundred times funnier if he was a Quagmire look a like.

  • Jen

I’m a bit disgusted that you’re basically saying that using better security to hide his crimes would have been ‘common sense’.

Talk about incredibly bad judgement, or at least a very poor choice of words.

  • HerbalEd

Talk about incredibly stupid comment and commenter.

  • HerbalEd

    … nor comprehend.

  • HerbalEd

A lifetime of bad food definitely explains early graying.

  • Nemo Aphonic

I disagree with your comment herbaled, when I read it I thought the same thing as well. While disgust is a bit harsh it was a bad choice of words / phrasing.

Flaming in comments and calling someone stupid, and you’re trying to demean someone? Get a life.

On to my point, while the writer may have used a less than perfect phrase it goes to show the bass ackwards view point of many americans. “Don’t get caught looking at child porn.” when it should be “Don’t look at child porn.” Much the same as “Don’t get raped.” when it should be “Don’t rape.”

  • bored

Did anyone else notice that the employee who took it home saw the photos and didn’t do anything? It was his WIFE who turned it in when she found them… That’s just as sick/creepy.

  • jesusB92

I think the iPod was dead, so the employee didn’t look through it before his wife charged it.

  • JMattP

    WHAT IS THIS PERSON SAYING?!

  • JMattP

I am trapped in a purgatorial nightmare in which every word I’ve ever read is suddenly incomprehensible to me. Thanks to the commenters on Cult of Mac, I have finally discovered that I can no longer read the English language! Strangely, I can still type and form sentences. WHEN WILL THIS END!?

  • Callum

However, None of that is relevant, the remark doesn’t endorse keeping your porno locked up tighter in contrast to not loking at it, it’s simply an obvservation (as denoted by the use of the word apparently). This observation is then taken by an oversensitive reader and misinterpreted completely. ‘Stupid’ is indeed the word.
