This screen protector, supposedly built for Apple’s much-anticipated iPhone 5, indicates the new device will indeed boast that fancy redesign we’ve all been longing for — with a larger screen and an all-new home button.
Ukwire.hk discovered the first iPhone 5 screen protectors, which are noticeably bigger that Apple’s iPhone 4. Not only are they bigger, but it seems the cutout for the front-facing camera and speaker is positioned closer to the top of the device — possibly pointing to a much thinner bezel around the display.
A larger device obviously points to a larger screen; the only way Apple would make a bigger iPhone would be to introduce a larger display — it wouldn’t make it bigger just so that we have to buy new cases again.
The home button is also larger and elongated — pointing to something a little more impressive than the current home button next time around. Whether it’s capacitive touch or something different, I don’t think Apple would change the size and shape of the home button unless it was necessary. I mean, does anyone find the current home button too small?
Of course, this screen protector could simply be the guesswork of some Chinese accessory manufacturer — based on those leaked case designs — and could in no way be an accurate representation of Apple’s upcoming iPhone. However, they keep our dreams of a snazzy new redesign alive, and for that reason, there’s no way we’re going to ignore them.
