iMessage Is Coming To OS X Lion Thanks To iChat [Rumor]

imessage

iMessage looks like a fantastic and free way for owners of iOS devices to keep in touch with each other, but what if you don’t have an iPhone, an iPod Touch or an iPad?

Never fear… the latest code snips peeking out of the corners of the current version of iChat for OS X Lion pretty strongly suggests that iMessage for OS X will be integrated into Lion’s existing IM client.

Properties found in iChat’s code refer to “read” and “delivery” receipts, which are iMessage features that tell a user if a message has been read or delivered to another device.

Previous to Lion, these code strings weren’t anywhere to be found.

Sounds plausible to us. After all, it didn’t take long for Apple to roll Facetime out to Mac users, and I’m guessing the same is true with iMessage. The more people using Apple’s new messaging service, the better.
