Your mom or tween daughter might not recognize them, but Tim Cook and Jonathan Ive are both more influential than Lady Gaga, according to Vanity Fair.
The iconic Conde Nast mag just released its 2011 New Establishment list, and this year it is dominated by people who can still probably go to the mall without being asked for autographs.
Ive and Cook took the number four spot in tandem holding down the fort for Apple (was Steve Jobs hastily erased after his resignation?), Lady Gaga was named number nine. The only woman in the top 10, she came in behind the very-important-dudes at Pixar, Netflix and Twitter.
Unsurprisingly, Vanity Fair used a picture of the “Born This Way” singer on its website to promote the upcoming issue and not the chino-wearing guys. (We suspect she looks better in a catsuit and platforms than most of them, too.)
To be fair, the idea of the list is to name the top 50 of an “innovative new breed of buccaneering visionaries, engineering prodigies, and entrepreneurs or “The Age of Information gives way to a burgeoning Age of Technology,” as VF editor Graydon Carter says.
And so the ranking thusly favors alpha nerds over entertainment darlings — though a few manage to sneak into the top 20 including trio Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Graham King (no. 14), Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park (no. 17) and Judd Apatow (no. 20.)
