Apple’s iAd Chief Is Leaving The Company
Andy Miller, the founder of Quattro Wireless who became Apple’s VP of mobile advertising and the head of iAd after Apple acquired his company for $250 million, is leaving the company.
AllThingsD reports:
Sources said Miller — who sold Quattro Wireless, the mobile advertising company he co-founded in 2006, to Apple in early 2010 for $275 million — will become a general partner at Highland Capital, the Boston-based venture firm that had funded Quattro.
Apple will search for a replacement for Miller, whose staff was told of the impending departure today.
There’s no word on why Miller is leaving, but it certainly can’t help that iAd is, so far, one of Apple’s relative duds, with advertisers turned off by both the high costs of advertising on the platform, the fact that the ads only run on iOS and Apple’s usual tight-fisted control over the whole creative process. Given iAd’s slow start, it wouldn’t surprise us if Miller was feeling the heat.
