Love Apple’s wireless Bluetooth keyboard but fed up of buying new batteries? Logitech’s new K75o keyboard could be the answer: a wireless keyboard — complete with a numeric keypad — powered entirely by the sun, which is sure to save you a small fortune and help the environment.
The K750 looks fantastic, in fact, if it didn’t have that Logitech logo on it, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was made by Apple themselves. It looks identical to Apple’s wireless aluminum keyboard, and features all the same function keys, but also boasts a whole lot more.
Just like Apple’s own keyboard, you have function keys for easy access to brightness and volume controls, Dashboard, Expose, and Mission Control. Unlike Apple’s offering, however, this device also packs a numeric keypad, and doesn’t need new batteries every couple of weeks.
Powered entirely by ambient light, the K750 will run for up to three months in complete darkness from a full charge, and Logitech says even regular indoor light is enough to keep it ticking over. So unless you plan to work in complete darkness for more than 3 months, you should never have to worry about the K750 giving up on you mid-report.
But solar power isn’t its only environmentally friendly gloat, the K750 also has a PVC-free construction and packaging that’s completely recyclable.
To accompany the device, Logitech promises to launch a free application for your Mac that will allow you to monitor its energy levels, and will alert you when it needs more light. What’s more, the included 2.4GHz wireless receiver uses Logitech’s Unifying technology, which lets you use a single USB dongle for multiple Logitech input devices.
The K750 will be available later this month for $60.
