Following this morning’s story that reveals Apple’s plans to launch a movie streaming service called iTunes Replay, one analyst believes that Apple has something more spectacular up its sleeve — a service that will take on Netflix.
Jeffries analyst Peter Masek issued a report today in which he says Apple has already made “unannounced deals” with almost all of the television and film companies that will allow the company to launch a movie streaming service to take on Amazon and Netflix.
Business Insider quotes Masek as saying:
“As part of Apple’s roll-out of cloud video services (and eventually an iTV), we believe Apple has unannounced deals with all/most of the studios/TV networks that are similar to the subscription streaming deal between Amazon and CBS.”
The report follows another story detailing Apple’s future movie plans published earlier today, in which it is claimed Apple is set to launch a service called iTunes Replay in the coming weeks that will allow users to stream the movies they’ve purchased in iTunes to their Apple TV and iOS devices.
If Apple has the deals in place to offer a Netflix-like streaming service, it’s possible iTunes Replay could offer ‘all you can eat’ subscription plans. Still, take with a grain of salt: any analyst talking about the inevitability of an “iTV” is not to be trusted without at least a dash of skepticism.
