White iPod Touch Parts Continue to Surface, But Were They Made By Apple?

Following last week’s discovery of a white iPod touch digitizer in Asia, it now seems these parts are making their way around the globe — even appearing in the United States. One gentleman on the East Coast has managed to get his hands on a white iPod touch display for his fourth-generation device, but was it made by Apple?

Lafayette has sent images to 9to5 ac of his device sporting a fancy white front panel, and apart from that black home button, I think it looks pretty damn attractive. But the question everyone’s asking is whether these parts indicate the release of a official white iPod touch from Apple. Without confirmation they are genuine Apple parts, it’s hard to tell.

What we do know is that they fit the fourth-generation iPod touch perfectly, and that the iFixYouri iPhone repair shop — a website with proven sources in Apple’s supply chain — has heard that OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts are floating around. It has stated, however, according to 9to5Mac, that OEM white iPod touch panels are physically unobtainable at this point.

9to5 Mac noted that ” it is undeniably interesting that these white parts are floating around just weeks ahead of Apple’s event.” And I completely agree. However, even if we were sure these are genuine Apple parts — and there’s a good possibility that they’re merely third-party knockoffs — there’s no guarantee we’ll ever see a white iPod touch. After all, with all the problems the company had getting the white iPhone 4 to market, there’s certainly a possibility that it began developing a white iPod touch and decided not to pursue it.

Having said that, I don’t see why there wouldn’t be one. Apple knows how popular its devices can be in white, why wouldn’t it introduce a white iPod touch?
