iPhone 5 Coming September 5 for US, October 5 Internationally [Rumor]

According to a “very reliable source,” iPhone Italia has reported that one of Switzerland’s carriers, Swisscom, will start offering the rumored iPhone 5 on October 5. Also, the Italian site’s source is “100% sure” that the iPhone 5 will also be available in the US on September 5, as Apple would already have to be talking with carriers about distribution for a new device this Fall.

With rumors like this, it’s always important to take anything you hear with a grain of salt. Swisscom currently offers the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, and there are also two other carriers in Switzerland that Apple has already partnered with for iPhone distribution.

September 5 falls on a Monday, and Apple has never released anything like a new iPhone on a Monday. Without any more background information to where this information from Swisscom actually came from, it’s difficult to place trust in this rumor.

Also, the soon-to-be CEO of Verizon recently said this about Verizon’s last quarterly earnings call:

“We are probably what I would view as maybe a quarter behind what we had talked about in January, primarily because we expected an iPhone 5 refresh sometime this summer.

We don’t know when the next one is going to come out. You will have to ask Apple that, but we expect that probably sometime in the fall, and I think you will see a significant jump there when we get to that point.”

If the incoming CEO at Verizon doesn’t even know when the next iPhone is coming out, then how in the world would someone from a Swiss telecom know? It all seems very far-fetched.

All of the rumors floating around have pretty much agreed on a September timeframe for Apple’s next iPhone announcement. Apple even said that a “product transition” was scheduled to take place this Fall at its last earnings call. So we would say it’s a good bet that Steve Jobs will take the stage in two months. Other than that, everything is speculative.

What do you think about this rumor of an iPhone 5 in the US on September 5, followed by international availability on October 5?

Verizon’s future CEO knows the date. But he knows not to say it. C’mon, give him some credit.

read the the italian article properly. they write that the iPhone 5 will arrive in october. google translation made then “iPhone will arrive on 5th october “. don’t trust google translation too much.

Exactly, leaks are common from “a reliable source”, but you’re not going to see the CEO of a huge company come out and blow Apple’s cover.

im going to bet that the iphone 5/4s doesnt come out until November

I think it will be September 29th, 2011 only becuase AT&T changed my upgrade day from 9/30 to 9/29 in the last week.  Here is my post http://jtsblog.com/is-the-new-
with screen shots.  Or like I said it could be a correction on AT&T’s part.

I actually called Apple Customer Support a few days ago since I am having issues once again with software on my iPhone 3GS. Right now its not syncing and then when it does it refuses to update to 4.3.4 or allow me to restore the iPhone at all. I called to ask for some tips and she said Apple will replace it for $199, I told her i might as well get the iPhone 4 and she said yes you can do that, and I mentioned back to her that I’d be putting myself behind again buying it since I bought the 3GS 1 month before the 4 came out. She said you’re best waiting till the end of next month to get your hands on the iPhone 5 when it’s released. I didn’t know how to take that information but it was straight from the Apple Customer Support line.

Apple Customer Support rep said to wait until the end of August? I’d take that as to only strengthen this article. Nice info friend!

im gonna go out on a limb here but i would have to agree on a fall launch date, only because apple has not yet secured the supply chain to build it as of yet, they are still shopping around for parts.. if it was gonna be released a months production time might just barely make it, with a ton of shortages as they will fall behind fast….

i think the announcement will happen when they do fall iPod stuff, that gives them a few months to get parts,,, start manufacture,, and have enough stock in place to actually launch without to many shortages….

on a side note,, if they are going to offer a 350 buck prepaid model, or iPod with 3g,, makes even more since to do this in the fall at the iPod event held annually,,, so in short, I’m betting on late october early november,,,

not to rain on  your parade or anything but i used to work for verizon for years in the wireless customer service department, and i can tell you, that traditionally employees know about 2 weeks ahead of any launch,, so I’m thinking that your experience was speculation…. its usually a 2 week window,, as there this is just enough time to train sales on any new features, and new pricing matrixes

I went to the AT&T store this past Saturday. The subject of the IPhone 5 came up. The rep said she believes the fall b/c in October the insurance for IPhones go up to 6.99 a month from 4.99.

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
