Woz Joins TechFor Educators.com Board of Directors

I’m one of many advocates for the schools in the “corridor of shame” in SC. http://www.corridorofshame.com. JV Martin Jr High student Ty’Sheoma Bethea was quoted by President Obama in his Feb address to congress because she wrote a letter asking for help and saying she and her classmates are not quitters. Since then gifts have come to her school but there are many others in the same boat that need help too. SC Superintendent of Education Jim Rex has pledged to help the schools but Gov Sanford is refusing stimulus money, and many SC legislators are pushing tax vouchers for private school attendance – diverting even more revenue from public schools. We desperately need help keeping the momentum for improvement going in the right direction. Lawsuits to get adequate funding have gone on since 1993… then-students are now approaching their 30s. It is tragic for more generations to pass thru these schools without a decent education. Internet teaching would be a good part of solution for them b/c it’s very hard to keep good teachers in the rural areas and w/low pay – virtual classes could bring more opportunity. I would love to put you in touch with those in charge, to help develop a plan. Thank you for your commitment to education and to helping the less fortunate. Besides being morally right thing to do, it’s the only answer for longterm succees of the US to make it a priority to educate our children.
