Would a 3G iPod Touch Look Like This?

The latest word on the street is that Apple will introduce a new iPod touch this Fall with the capability to run on a 3G network. This rumor has been built off previous reports that a cheaper iPhone “Nano” would be introduced alongside a new, flagship iPhone. Now there’s a render. What do you think?

The iPhoneDownloadblog notes:

“We took this concept to Photoshop, and we came up with the iPod Touch 3G. It looks exactly like the current iPod Touch, but has a black strip on the back. It also says “3G” in the menu bar. Along with that, it also features an integrated SIM card, as the next iPhone is rumored to have…”

We’re a little skeptical. The iPod touch is already super thin, and it would be difficult to fit a 3G modem inside the device without bulking it up. If Apple does indeed unveil a 3G iPod touch in the coming months, there’s a good chance it will look a little different than this. But hey, you never know.

What do you guys think? Does this concept make sense?

    Anything is possible. :)
iPod Nano Watch. No one ever thought Apple would make it a watch compared to it’s constantly shrunken brothers.

iPhone Nano Watch would surprise the heck out of Dick Tracy fans.

Don’t see the point of going even thinner than the current ones, certainly don’t see the point of a thinner iPhone 4 or iPod touch, better camera, better networking, battery life and a more capable iOS, aside from that I’m perfectly happy with my iPhone 4 for the time being.

a 3G iPod touch already exists; it’s called an iPhone

but…. if it has 3g, all you need is a ear speaker to make it a phone… i mean… it’s inevitable… i just don’t think the iPod Touch 3g will ever happen..

Yea, there going to call it the iPhone 3GS.

I wouldn’t mind if there’s a 3G iPod touch; only if there’s a vast difference between the iPhone and the iPod touch then. Also, I would still rather get an iPad over an iPod touch anytime; with or without 3G.

Nope, as I’ve said time and again, there won’t be an iPod Touch 3G. However, there WILL be a transition of the iPod Touch to a phone device. Think exactly the same device as now, but with phone capabilities. No 3G. No contracts. Just an iPod Touch with a phone in it for the same price as you can get one now. You can quote me on it. It WILL happen.

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
